Hi I've been using logic 5.5.1 on the pc platform for a couple of years now. It almost brought me to tears. I had never used anything so elegant. I've been saving up for a mac and looking forward to all the new features. There is still plenty to learn with what I've got. This seems like a friendly and knowlegeable forum. I'm not sure how much emphasis on the pc version being a dead platform, but I am trying to learn as much as I can about logic pro while I save up for a mac.

Hello good people. I'm no longer in the position of trying to make my living from music( thank god ) but I still like to keep my set-up groovy and top-modern. I started out with an SH101 in 1982 before getting a Poly-61 just before midi came out. Then it was various Ataris before I entered Mac land. Nowadays I have a Dual 1.8 Ghz rev b PowerMac with 2 Gbs of Ram, running Tiger 10.4.2 with all the trimmings, Zebra,Filterscape, Vanguard, Albino 2 etc . Ooh and my lovely UAD-1 which now works beautifully in my system.
Apologies for not introducing myself before.

Feel free to introduce yourself. It helps other members get to know you better and faster.

When introducing yourself, go ahead and tell us about YOU.
How Long have you been using Logic ?
What Equipment are you using ? ( then add your system setup to your signature.)
How and where you started using Logic.

I'm a newcomer to Logic, currently working through the Logic Express demo. I'll be upgrading to Logic Pro after I get a system that will run it. I've played guitar and bass (classical and electric) for 40+ years, 20 years as a full time (no day job) pro and 20 years as a computer professional. Although new to Logic I've used PC-based music software since the MS-DOS version of Cakewalk (yes, I'm a switcher, using Mac OS X since 2002).

My current system is:

Powerbook 667, 1G memory, 23G free disk space on external 7200 rpm LaCie drive
OS X 10.4.2
Logic Express 7.0
MOTU Traveler Firewire interface
Pod Pro XT Live

I've encountered severe limitations with this system. I'll be posting a question on this topic in the forums.

I look forward to your help!
GitMike

 Hello Logic Family,

Just wanted to introduce myself...I produce all sorts of things...I love all types of music, so whatever I'm working on at the moment is really whatever I'm into at that given moment. More than anything I use Logic to compose...using mostly MIDI...guitar and vocals get recorded somewhat, but most often, it's soft-synth galore. I've had Logic 7 Pro for 8 months or so now, and i can't stop loving it....I've been teaching myself using the training series books, and other text sources. I run a G4 double processor, with all soft synths...native komplete, reason, ableton....as of now i'm working on finishing my first demo i want to shop...however, it's taking longer than i originally set in my goals due to learning logic while simultaneously producing my-tunes. it's all good though...i'm no real hurry...primarily i play guitar, and piano...for controllers i use an oxygen 8 and keystation 88...i look forward to learning and contributing, thanks...ben

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and to Logic. Briefly, I am an amateur musician, I play clarinet and tenor saxophone, as well as some piano.

I got logic express on a student discount and can't believe how much functionality I picked up for $150. Amazing! I'm having a blast trying my hand at writing, arranging, mixing and mastering songs.

I am here to add to the community and ask questions, as well. Thanks for having me.

I'm an amateur musician (piano mostly, though I've played trumpet and saxophone in the past), new to Logic and to Mac. In the far-distant past I had an Atari ST with MasterTracks Pro, and later PCs with Cakewalk and Band-in-a-Box, as well as Allegro for notation. Numerous crashes later, I finally decided to quit throwing my life away as a Home Computer Disaster Specialist and switch to Mac.

Now I'm using an iMac G5 with Logic Pro 7; this is like going from a an old Plymouth sedan (brown, with square corners) to the space shuttle!

My musical interests are primarily jazz (I'm in a group that gets together regularly to learn Real Book tunes, do our own arrangements, and occasionally write an original composition), funk, blues, and experimental stuff. One of my greatest dreams for computerized music is to be able to do things in the vein of Paul Lansky--and I'm excited that Logic may help me move in that direction. I also want to learn more about Logic's notation capabilities so I can use it to print out lead sheets and arrangements for the band I play with. And I want to use all the great resources in Logic to construct cool grooves and tunes--to what practical end, I don't know; but it's good for my mental health. :help:

So far this forum looks like a great resource. I really like the helpful and generous spirit of the members, and the wealth of excellent information. In my first day of exploring, I've already learned a lot of good tips! Looking forward to learning and sharing with you all.

Tom (thx)

Crappy cheapo Panasonic earphones (a pair of decent reference monitors, or equivalent quality headphones if available, is in my future)
Sharp MD-SR60 minidisc recorder + Sound Professionals mics for recording audio

Greeting all. I have just received a copy of Logic Express. I have only used the demo. I've been using Cubase SE for over a year with no real complaints except its so unMac like. I like the feel of the LE demo so bought it. I'm only loosing Steinbergs Virtual instrument collection which is a POS anyway. My other plugins are AU.
I feel Logic is a more professional package than Cubase and happy to be using an Apple product on my Mac. I hope to learn a lot from this forum and yes I do RTFM.
Peace.

Hey Tom,

I'm 51 yr old songwriter/pianist who has been recording with Logic 6 for about a year (more like struggling with it for 8 months and finally over some major humps and recording now) - - I love pianos and - - and also have a couple synths -

I have a piano/recording dilemna - - has anyone identified a great feeling weighted synth? They are so much better to record with and of course, gig with, yet nothing really FEELS like a piano other than a piano!

For my piano, I have an old Yamaha CP80 babygrand acoustic/electric - - is that the same as yours, Tom (pfs)? I LOVE IT and am dreading giving it up for recording as it's NOISY (acoustic file on Logic)- - no? Plus no midi-editing ability - - right? TALK ME OUT OF THIS IF YOU CAN, but I'm looking for a weighted synth to replace it with - - but I can't find anything that feels as real as the CP80 except a REAL acousitic baby grand, of course, which probably would not be as nosiy with good mikes than the CP80 - - right?

(I'm hoping to hear your pfs80 is not the CP80 and in fact a weighted synth that actually feels great; Closet I've found to a real piano is maybe the Yamaha ES90 or P60) -

Hope all's good - -
Drleer

Hello Logic Pro Forums,

I am a retired 60 year old guy who has been using Logic since 1992 when I first installed version 2.5 on my old SE30 Mac. I am now using Logic Express 7.0.1 on a 17" aluminum PowerBook. My studio includes a old Yamaha pfs80 weighted keyboard that I will never give up, Proteus modules, a K200R, Lexicon Reverb, a Midi Timepiece, and other associated equipment to aid my love of classical scoring and performing.

I am enjoying Logic Express - especially playing with loops and the other bells & whistles that we could only dream about 20 years ago.

I'll be lurking around to learn more about Logic Express to get the most out of it, and to occasionally ask a question about some confusing issue I can't figure out.

Cheers, Tom

Hey all,
I'm a London born engineer, composer, producer, trying to make it in NYC, USA. I've been using Logic Pro since V.4 along with cubase and PT's, but in the last two years only use Logic to compose. For now I'm using a G5 imac (1.8GHz + 2Gig RAM) with a Photon X25 keyboard, Oxygen 8, Korg MS2000B, virtual guitarist, and a Roland MV-8000, with some crap Roland DM-20 speakers.
I have also sold my soul to Media in the form of crappy songs for Adverts and Films, in order to finace my addiction to Hip Hop! On the plus I couldn't do it all without Logic, but I still need a little extra help in realising all that Logic can do for me - that's why I love this site! It's hands down the most informative place for Logic related problems/ inquiries, way more helpful than the telephone operators who call themselves "technical engineers". As 1 of many whose never read the Logic Pro manual I appreciate this site for helping me keep that promise!
Thanks - everyone keep spreading the knowledge .
Peace

How on earth i missed this i do not know

My name is James Vickers and i am from Lincolnshire UK, i have been a DJ for about six years now (dance music) and took the next step in to production about 3 years ago, i started on a PC using Prop heads Reason 2.5 and moved to FL studio shortly after, i stayed with Fruity for about two years, i have had one record signed to a small/medium sized dance lable and last month took the brave step of upgrading from PC to MAC and from Fruity Studio to Logic pro.

I produce mainly tech house/techno but have been listening to breaks and minimul techno more and more lately so i will be having a go at that soon...no doubt

I am running a G5 Power Mac (the 2.0 dual core, dual processor version) with 2.5 gig of ram and Logic pro 7, i use my PC as an audio instrument as i have masses of VSTI's on there and i am not buying MAC versions of the SW as well, I have a Korg Prophacy Synth, an Alesis Photon X25 midi k/board and a Alesis MultiMix16 Fire wire mixer, for monitoring i have some KRK RP8 active speakers.

Finally my spelling at typing is not what you would call acceptable, so, try and bare with me ;)

Wassup folks
I am a producer song-writer slash rapper slash CEO. DOing it all myself even went so far as to take a contracting gig in Iraq to make some start-up money. Well 2 weeks ago I decided to go MAC. PC's Windows XP and all that blows crashes and programs running under the Radar. Well in my infinite wisdom I went out and bot the top of the line Intel Dual Core and a tascam 1082 and was ready to do business with my Cubase SL3 ------NOT!!! It wont work with Intel processors and loading Pro-tools 6.9.2 is no better. I am not new to this computer software game but this had me at my wits end. I swallowed my pride cussed for about an hour and just purchased Logic Pro 7.2 for $999 :read: . It hasnt even got here yet from musicians friend. SO I am totally new and hopefully since this an Apple Program with an Apple computer I wont have none of the problems......Hopefully :detective:

Hey guys.

Just wanted to give you a bit of background on us... my name is Ads, I work for an upcoming audio brand called KitSound. We produce docking stations, headphones, mini speakers, etc, most noticeably known so far for our Boom Dock and DJ Headphones.

As part of our promotional material, we are producing "fun" video content for YouTube, Amazon, Play. We are working very closely with emerging artists to offer exposure of their talents through using their soundtracks in our videos (with well deserved crediting!).

Best example of our intended direction is within the video here for our DJ Headphones: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kondor-KSDJ-.../dp/B00359GBQ0.

Should be an exciting year. Would love to get you guys involved.

Kind Regards,

Hi, I'm Dan ("Hi Dan") and I'm a Logicolic.

I've been using Logic for a couple of years along with some of my own custom software to learn audio engineering and composition. I've written some music over time that I host on my web-site at www.highermetrics.com and do some odd projects here and there on the side, but for the most part this is a hobby for me. I hope to grow my skills to a point where it will become more than that, but there are years of hard work and study to do before I can earn that ring and helping people and asking questions on a forum such as this one is a great way to "sharpen the saw", as Covey would say.

My actual job is a Software Contractor in Wisconsin, USA. Sometimes I work in Milwaukee, sometimes in Madison; it always changes and the variability keeps my hard and soft skills sharp. The technical knowledge, along with studying the science, enables me to work on plug-ins and analysis software that I hope to some day post on Higher Metrics. I hope to innovate and contribute to the field of audio engineering some day.

Greetings from Winnipeg Canada. I haven't used Logic before, and I'm about to purchase Logic Pro X. I am graduating from Garageband, but I'm interested in piano, guitar, and drums, and lots of synth sounds. I have a new MacBook Air fully loaded [love the portability], and 2-27" iMacs. I was attracted to the score editor in Logic Pro X, and the drummer module.  I'm hear to learn, since I'm such a true blue rookie at this.  :bouncy:

Hi all! Logic Pro 9 user since 2011, haven't made the jump to X yet, but hopefully soon! I used to produce electronic music, but shifted my focus more to more guitar-heavy "electronic rock" I guess you could say (also been producing some stuff in the chillout genre). I love Logic and I love Macs, happy to be part of this forum :D

EDIT: whoa just realized I'm the first poster here since 2013! :-O
