Logic Pro 8 - Logic Express 8

Logic 7 is 9 months old, I wonder whether we'll see another late September announcement of 8?

Anyway, a couple of things I'd like to see, mainly Soundtrack Pro style audio editing and further 'Appleizing' making it more like the other pro apps, projects in tabs anyone?

I'm sure I'll think of plenty more.......

......................................................

Summary of posts below:

1. Soundtrack Pro style audio editing
2. Melodyne style audio editing
3. Third party plugin support for DAP
4. Projects in tabs
5. updated EXS24
6. more accessible environment (user friendly)
7. complete re-write of logic
8. sample accurate editing in the arrange
9. further 'Appleizing' of logic
10. orchestral based synth
11. more templates
12. Outboard units need better integration
13. intrack matrix editing (arrange window )

Re: projects in tabs.
I wonder how they would do this? opening multiple songs/projects at once may be a resource issue.
I would love to see a complete re-write of logic, its got to happen sooner or later. its a pretty old app, new code piled on top of old code, mixed.

I don't know, what more could we want in logic?

It would be nice if they made the environment a little more accessible and easier to use. There are some amazing things that you can do with the environment, but they are so hard to access. Maybe things like arpegiator etc in savable, stackable modules (like channel strips) something like this, take the complexity out of it, without diminishing it's power.

Also I'd love to have 3rd party plugs in DAP.

Melodyne style audio editing would be my absolute dream.

For me the above mentioned Soundtrack type audio editor...and 3rd party DAP support...but it is definitely pleasing me right now....but those things would make it even sweeter....

An updated EXS24, it's looking very dated at the moment.

Great, Right around the time I've figured 7 out. Seriously, Logic is wicked dense, but I have noticed a couple
things that I'd like to see:
1) The enviroment window is very confusing. I don't jnow who thinks this is logical way to present
your I/O. Try showing someone how to use it. OY.

2) Outboard units (like tascam 1084 et al) need better integration. I have an Oxygen 8 which Apple
mentions and supports but how about some configurations set-up for it? Some synths are, some aren't,
changing via learn operation can be drastic.

3) Some more "templates" for us smaller screen users.I use logic on a Powerbook and Imac 17.
Even though I have made a couple templates, it would be nice to have a wider range to tweak.
THese things take up a LOT of time.

4) Can we get rid of the Key? I hate the KEY.

5) How about some NICE orchestral based synth include.
Logic is very "genre" driven. ES1,2 etc are nice, but
I could use something a little more Classical. Yes, sculpture has some of these intentions, but
I'd like something that's a little more straight forward (some "common" interface tweaking
on the synths would nice as well)

---
Anyhow, I have a stack of the Peachpit books and the manual...someone offered me $$ to
convert it into a condo.
Still- I expect i will feel comfy with Logic by the end of the summer...

2048 buffer size

AU versions of all plugins

control of pitch correction via midi

the ability to be a rewire slave

FREE updates ( not upgrades ..you know what I mean )

when importing a sound file into WB from CD , have WB actually copy the file on the HD

overall core audio improvement

sample accurate editing in the arrange like STP

some decent restoration plugins would be nice ( I hear STP is not up to snuff either in this area )

that'll do for now

All of the above plus more! I've got many ideas. But seriously, as long as they implement things thoroughly and it's stable I'll be happy with whatever they decide on...

If all they do is bug fixes, improved stability, and improved CPU use of the entire app, call it 7.2 and release it is a free download, I would be a very very happy person. So please, add this to your poll.

And one other thing. VERY VERY important.
They can spend all their time, every last available resource, getting the guys at eMagic to move all the code over to xcode. We want a 100% native (non rosetta) Logic BEFORE intel macs hit the street. Totally streamlined and performing fast as hell on an intel chip. Much more important.

I'm with you MM, whatever they do I'm happy with the way Logic performs, better than TOOLS.... i would however like to see more environment templates, and an update for the 01V96v2, more people i know are upgrading from the 01X and wanting live recording capabilities but dont have the $$ for an 02R or a DM2000. Both Apple and yamaha need to sort out the stability issues surrounding MY-mlan16 cards and the software, its taken me toooo long to get it to where i am happy with, and their is no bloody support from either company in regards to set up in environment, one has to "feel" their way through the internal patching in logic... add to this Tiger's little "qwirks" and you require a bottle of scotch to get through it ....

Elmer, you da man ..... tell em like it is ......

I'm kinda of wit Mr. Fudd on this......Just make sure everything is tight as a bell...
especially Waveburner......

But overall I want what everybody else does ....especially 3rd party DAP ins/effect support...and Soundtrack type Audio editing.(with a universal audio batch convertor,,,,so I can deal with all the files that come my way from other programs).....

And just have everything tight as a bell whether you are on a G5 or a Powerbook.......

All the fixes and updates would be great, some more than others. What I am hoping for is that we don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get the upgrade! I've already spent a $1,000.00 for Pro 7. I'll be forced to abuse the academic connections I have....don't make me do it apple!

I could go for an improved pitch correction plugin, one that allows fixing one bad syllable. Sort of like the editor in the Antares pitch corrector. Or can I do this now with track automation? Didn't see it last time I looked.

Then again, maybe I shouldn't have this...it makes me practice my vocals more. :)

id like to see a dedicated 'drum editor' like cubase has. Also a better way muti-tim instruments are handeled, having there own proper mixer channels rather than using AUXchannels.

:good:

How about a step sequencing, arppeggiating & gating plug-in that can be applied to any VSTi, ala DP's new plug.

Overall stability and bug freeness has to be a priority... there are still too many random crashes, graphics bugs e.t.c.

EXS24 does need to be modernised to compete with the useability of say Kontakt and Mach5.
Better file browsing system, more intuitive drag n drop mapping, more sophisticated filter options!

'bounce in place' command to bounce an audio part with fx and replace the part with the processed one.
