I just bought a Dual 2.5 G5 with PCI-X. I didn't like the idea of replacing my RME card and losing my 2-UAD-1 cards. Also, I'd rather wait till everyone has worked out the kinks in the new Intels before going there. I'll it a year or two:)

Probably will get one of the last G5 dual core, before they vanish from the scene.

I'm switching from Windows to Mac-based (because my favorite production software--Logic--is no longer Windows....)

In researching the 'deal'--I have found that 'they' say all macs will be Intel-based in about a year from now, however, I have to continue composing, and I can't wait for a year to come and go.

I think I'll purchase the Mac Quad, and then (with the distributed audio thing) hook that up to a mac powerbook pro or something..

I just bought the macbook pro - I like it. Next will be the intel based ibook. I wouldn't buy a Power PC based mac anymore, as Apple hasn't been very good at supporting legacy systems. They kink of just say, here's the new operating system, isn't it great! if will only work on the latest system architectures - and a major dividing point will be intel chips.

I've been PC all my life 'til Logic became Mac only, but it'll be atleast a year or two before I can even think about buying the latest Mac - maybe when they make a G6 Octo core with Logic 10, and OS XX; they change so often it is a constant updating/ shopping extravaganza with Apple!
Node linking will hopefully work with older Macs - right!?

I've just updated to a G5 Quad 2.5MHz, possibly the last G5?
That will keep me going for another 5 years as did its predecessor, a G4 Dual 450Mhz!

Even though i bought the last of the Powerbook G4 last fall, i might buy the Macbook Pro this summer to start testing Logic and a few plug-ins on the Intel pltform. I already have a buyer for my G4...lucky me... a switcher no less...lol

My production machine is a G5 which should suffice for another couple of years, but I need a portable, so the first Intel iBook replacement is what I'm hoping for.

I have a dual 2gHz Powermac and a 1.5 gHz PowerBook. I suspect I'll repace the portable first, but they need to make a pro version of the MacBook Pro first. I need more connectivity. The lack for Firewire 800 and only one 400 port is a shame. Also, they jumped onto the Expresscard too quickly. It only runs at 480 megs, so that will bottleneck firewire 800 devices.

I bought a duallie 2.7 just as they became eol in order to ride out the intel transition. I was actually holding out for the quad but MOTU took too long to comment on PCI-e, so I went for the last of the PCI-x's. So I figure I'll be in line for a macintel desktop right about when they've sorted everything out (I hope). And hopefully won't have ditched the whole thing and gone back to PPC . . .

I use 1.67GHz PB and dual 2GHz PM and am pretty content with those until I can get double the power (can't be bothered changing for only 50% gain). Probably won't be buying for 18 months or so, unless I decide I want a media hub, in which case I much just try MacMini
