I only got 2G cause I got a G4 DP...and thats all it will take....
Ram is like fuel to run the beast...and digital audio is truly a beast....
Some apps. won't even kick on with less than 512mb in the tank...or if they do they putter out when you start pushing em a little...

I've just bought 2 gig from crucial to go in my G5 on top of my 512mb. Hopefully, should see some performance increases all round.
