Hi guys,
I've been looking at buying Melodyne recently to work on loads of vocal harmonies. I contacted celemony to ask if it would run in Pro Logic 7.1 on a G5 powermac. This was their reply;

Hi Jennifer,

Due to some changes in Logic 7.1, the MelodyneBridge does not sync proper to Logic 7.1 and 7.1.1. Please do not try to run multiple Bridge plugins simultaneously and do not wonder if the Bridge automatically stops transferring audio to Melodyne or if you get drop outs while plying back. Apart from that, the Bridge should generally work in Logic. Apart from that, Melodyne is extremely powerful when used as standdalone app or Rewire app as well.

I then asked;

'Are there any plans to make melodyne fully compatible with Logic? I don't want to buy it if it drop outs and stops transferring audio and I don't want to use it stand alone.

And he replied;

Hi Jennifer,

It doesn't has to do with plans, but with the reality within Logic. Of course, we would make Melodyne3 100% compatible to Logic 7.1, but unless Apple doesn't change certain technical aspects in Logic, we cannot play this ball. The ball is not in our ballpark. I don't know how Logic will look like in future, but there are rumors that there will be a new Logic this year.

Best regards,

.......

Can anyone help me out with this? I really want to run melodyne in Logic, does anyone use it? Also does anyone know if it's now compatible or if there are new versions of Logic? Does this mean upgrades? I only just bought this one! I'm not very knowledgable about this stuff so would really appreciate your advice/help.

Thanks

Jen.

P.S I not great at using the equipment I've got so bit worried about trying to rewire and stuff!?!

Thanks,
This is the reply I got;

'Basically Logic 7.2 doesn't include the necessary changes yet to make the Bridge work 100% reliably. However it can work in 95% of the cases perfectly well, but the unreliable timing information given by the AU simply can cause the Bridge to drop out of sync. Again - this is nothing we can do from our side. However you still could use Melodyne with Logic when using it by Rewire, which is not that big of a difference. You just would have to export the audio tracks out of Logic and then import them into Melodyne, since it is not possible to transfer the audio data by Rewire into Melodyne'.

Not possible to transfer the audio data by rewire? ......hmmmm. I just want to be able to record one backing vocal then drag it onto all the other notes of the chord in the celemony stave so I have an instant choir (doesn't matter if sounds not perfect) it's more for v.quick writing etc. I'd want to them change them around as and when nec. quickly. It's cool for me to record parts in melodyne but is he saying they can't both work and play at same time easily transferring audio data? Wanted to use this function to save time rather than create problems. Any thoughts? Have I got this all wrong? Quite likely :-) Celemony keep saying that Apple will improve logic so that melodyne will work (7.2 won't). Do you think this could feasibly be on the cards?

Another option could be looking at Revoice Pro 3 which should run fine in Pro Logic 7.1 on a G5 powermac. Watch these overview videos for more information:

Are you just working with stacked vocal harmonies or do you plan to use a suitable application for other uses as well?
